What Comporta was a decade ago — wind-scoured, sun-bleached, beautiful in a way that felt accidental — Melides is now. Wilder. Quieter. Less discovered. The beaches stretch for miles without a sun lounger in sight. Cork oaks and pine forests run almost to the sand. At night, the sky is so dark and so full of stars that it stops conversations mid-sentence.
September is when it is at its best. The summer crowds are gone. The light turns golden and long. The Atlantic is still warm. It is the exact right moment — the last exhale of summer before autumn arrives — and there is nowhere on earth I would rather be.
The Villa. The Week.
We have a six-bedroom, six-and-a-half-bathroom private villa with panoramic sea views. Fully secluded. Surrounded by nature. No hotel lobby, no strangers in the hallway, no noise. Just the ocean on the horizon and the people you came with.
Every morning begins with movement — Luchana's workouts, twice daily, designed to push you somewhere you didn't know you could reach. Every evening finds us somewhere extraordinary: around the villa table with a private chef and Alentejo wines chosen to be drunk exactly like this, slowly, with food, with people you love. Or at the bar inside Vermelho — Christian Louboutin's extraordinary boutique hotel in the heart of Melides village, all baroque tiles and Greek frescoes and a cocktail menu served in a room that feels like a fever dream of beauty. Or watching the sun drop into the Atlantic from the dunes at JNcQUOI Beach Club in Comporta, which is — and I do not say this lightly — one of the most glamorous spots in Europe.
One night we will sit outside beneath the Alentejo sky and do nothing but breathe and be still. One day we will take the road to Lisbon for a surprise I am not ready to reveal yet.
